ABOUT CAROLYN MICHELLE SMITH

Carolyn is an Actress, Educator, and Producer based in Los Angeles. Originally from Washington DC, she attended Fordham University at Lincoln Center where she received her BA in Theater Performance, and later received her post-graduate degree from
Juilliard.

As an Educator, Carolyn has led and developed curriculum for Harlem School of The Arts, Los Angeles Performing Arts Conservatory, and The Shakespeare Society in NYC to name a few. Leading actors in audition technique and performance, Carolyn later developed AspireHigher Coaching Services, Inc. providing one-on-one and on set coaching to actors in NYC and LA.

As an Actress, Carolyn made her Broadway debut in “Romeo and Juliet” starring Orlando Bloom and Condola Rashad. She is currently recurring both as DEJA on Lena Waithe’s “THE CHI” Season 5 on Showtime, as well as AGNES on “Russian Doll” Season 2 on Netflix. Select TV credits include: “House of Cards”, “Law and Order”, “Luke Cage”, “How to Get Away w/ Murder”, “The Oath”, “Notorious” and “Cherish the Day”. She was selected and worked closely with director Steve McQueen for HBO’s pilot order of “Codes of Conduct”. Film credits include: “He’s Way More Famous Than You”, directed by Michael Urie, “Reboot Camp”, “Sunny Daze”, and “Tankhouse”.

She is a founding member of the Juilliard Black Alumni Association (JBAA), providing support to current black students in the Juilliard Drama Division, as well as recent alums.

Carolyn is deeply passionate about her work as both Actor and Director of the Acting Track for Lena Waithe’s Hillman Grad Mentorship Lab. She’s proud to lead with a team focused on shaping the future of Hollywood.
